Mens’ Eyewear and Prescription Glasses
Mens’ Eyewear: Comfort, Modern Styles and Durability
For the modern male, there are three key factors that determine suitable eyeglasses: comfort and fit, durability, and style.
The Importance Of Comfortable Eyeglasses
A study that was recently carried out by the Vision Council, which involved American men aged between 35 and 64, showed just how important comfort and fit was to that age group. When choosing eyeglasses, 88% of those who responded selected comfort and fit as being the main determining factor.
In terms of comfort, the frames should have enough width to complement the face, but with the arms not pushing too hard into either side of a person’s head. Ideally, the frame's outer edges should be wider than a person’s face.
Frames today will usually have nose pieces that can be adjusted to avoid pinching, as well as silicon pads that are designed to aid comfort. As frames will come in different sizes, it is a case of trying several before deciding on the glasses that are the best fit. The basic rules for buying men’s glasses should be the same for prescription glasses or for buying glasses direct.
Ideal Choices For Durable Frames
In the Vision Council study, almost 60% of respondents said that durability was also a major factor when it came to selecting suitable men’s glasses. Regarding durable frames, stainless steel and titanium are good choices, and they have the added advantages of being reasonably light while looking stylish.
A titanium-based alloy such as Flexon has great flexibility and strength, and, for frames that are made out of this material, even when bent they’ll revert back to their original shape. For men participating in sport, glasses with plastic frames offer durability – and, when ordering glasses direct, there will be the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of designs and colours, too.
Looking Modern And Stylish
Once regarded as purely old-fashioned prescription glasses, John Lennon style frames are suitable for people with smaller faces and can help you to look cool and studious at the same time.
Big and bold aviator eyeglasses are very much fashionable, and especially the type with twin brow bars. While rimless and semi-rimless men’s glasses can give the impression of nearly being invisible, they are also very light. Titanium, aluminium, stainless steel, and plastic are just some of the materials that can help to give eyeglasses a certain style.
