Sphere: Use the scroll bar to find the corresponding value to your prescription Sphere values form the starting point of any prescription and will always be required even when you just require reading glasses. If this is written under the NEAR line on your prescription, it will already include your reading prescription. The sphere value tells us if you are near sighted or long sighted, so the - and + signs are very important to get right. Please therefore check that you have entered this value correctly. You may see signs such as & on its side - this is the infinity symbol and means that no correction is necessary. You may also see Plano or DS. These all mean the same thing - no correction is necessary. Finally, your prescription might show BAL or BALANCE written in the Sphere column - this would imply that there is no useful vision from this eye but will tell us to make the lens balanced for weight and thickness. Cylinder: Use the scroll bar to find the corresponding value to your prescription Cylinder, together with the axis value correct any astigmatism that you may have. Don\'t worry if there are no figures here as this means that you do not need any correction for this. However, if it is present, please ensure the + or - signs are correct and that you also provide your axis values. Both the right and the left cylinder values must both either be - or + values. Don\'t mix them! You may just see DS written in the cylinder column - this means diopter spheres - and means no correction is required.

Axis: Use the scroll bar to find the corresponding value to your prescription This, together with the cylinder value, corrects any astigmatism that you may have. Don\'t worry if there are no figures here as this means that you do not need any correction for this. This figure does not have a + or a - value as it is a value in degrees, but please make sure that you enter it as shown on your prescription. It can be any value from 0-180 so please don\'t add any decimal points here if they don\'t exist! If its 17.5 then fine, enter this with the decimal point, but if it is shown as 175, please scroll down to 175 on the pop up menu, otherwise it will make quite a big difference to your vision!! If there is a difference of more than 20 between your right and left axis measurements, check again that you have entered this correctly. It is not so unusual but still worth a second check that you have read your prescription correctly.

Reading Addition (NEAR ADD)
Reading addition or NEAR ADD: This is your reading addition which will be added to your sphere values to give an overall magnification for reading use or close up work. This is usually only written once on many prescriptions but it always applies to both eyes. It will say for example - near add +1.25 Always also supply your distance prescription in the distance fields even if you just want reading glasses.
Reading Addition (NEAR ADD)
The pupilary distance: (PD) is the measurement in millimetres from the centre of one pupil to the other. It is best to have your PD measured when you have your eyes tested by your optician. However, you can choose to leave this set on select and we will take an average pd as set by our dispensing opticians.

Step 4 of 4 - Optional extras to make your glasses look and feel even better
Light reacting lenses are photochromic which means that they will react to sunlight and turn dark when out in sunlight. This also gives you glare reduction and 100% UV protection whilst increasing visual acuity. Turning dark outdoors in sunny conditions and changing back to light when indoors will save you the trouble of carrying a second pair of sunglasses. Please note that they WILL NOT turn dark behind a car windscreen so are not recommended by us for driving.
Polarised:
Polarised lenses will give your eyes the maximum protection from reflective glare, and as such will give you improved contrast and depth awareness . This is a fantastic option for driving or anyone playing a lot of sports such as Golf and Fishing or for activities such as Skiing. The lenses are tinted and offer UV protection for your eyes. This option is not available on rimless frames or with the thin lens option.
Polarised: This option should not be chosen with rimless frames or with the thin lens option. Also, do not choose this option if you have already opted for a light reacting lens.
Plain tints
You can choose from a number of colour options for your glasses and 2 strengths of tint as follows:
Light - Used mostly for fashion. Ideal if you have an aversion to light
Dark - This gives you maximum protection from the suns rays and is suitable for bright light situations.
Anti Reflective

Anti - Reflective:
This coating will dramatically reduce the reflections from the surface of your lenses so as to make the lens almost invisible, thus improving the appearance of your glasses. It will also cut out the reflections from your own eyes.
It is not necessary to choose UV or Anti reflective if you have opted for a Polarised lens.
There is no need to choose the UV protection if you have chosen Light reactors.

An Ultra violet clear protection coating on your lens will help to protect your eyes from the harm caused by long term exposure to the suns UV rays. Extensive exposure can cause many disorders such as cataracts and macular degeneration. A UV400 protective coating is particularly recommended for people who work outdoors in bright sunlight. Great for driving.
